About

Kültür öğrenci is Turkish for “student of culture”. My name is David and I am just what my blog name implies. I love learning about different cultures: the values, traditions and practices that make them unique and the people that are defined by them. Culture is a God-given blessing! (To learn more about who I am, I invite you to read the “Author Bio” page).

This June, I will embark on a four week journey through Turkey and Greece as part of Baylor University’s summer abroad program. By visiting cultural and historical sites and reading literature surrounding these culture-rich hubs lining the Mediterranean I hope to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of my own life and culture. In the upcoming weeks, I will share objective reports, personal journals, comparisons of readings and experiences, as well as photographs on this blog (see the “Pictures” page for picture postings with detailed captions. It is organized by date, so make sure to scroll down to the bottom to see new pictures which I’ll add daily.) Join me as I embark on this incredible journey!

My journey this summer continues in Kenya at the end of July as I seek to serve the people there through a medical missions trip with the Christian Medical Dental Association (CMDA). The first week, we will be in Namanga, a rural village in western Kenya. The second week, we will be ministering in Dandora, one of the poorest slum areas outside the capital of Nairobi. Our primary activities during the trip will be (1) offering medical/dental/physical therapy health care and (2) sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with them. I am excited to see what God has in store for me during this medical missions trip! Follow my blogs as I prepare and then reflect on the experiences of this trip!
